Ordinary World (Cursed Kin Series Book 2) Page 9
Releasing his neck, she arched her own to give him better access as he grasped her shoulders tightly. Now it was not making love, it was possessing. There was a hunger to him that had nothing to do with feeding – he needed to feel alive, to feel this desire, with her. He’d been scared and now he was reveling in the moment. There was no tenderness, it was more of a need to possess – just like their first time together in her office. He hadn’t loved her – he had taken her and she wanted to be taken.
This was the same desperation – the same instinct.
The man in him wanted, no needed, to dominate her and make her his woman. She could feel him driving into her, her body ripe for the taking. Making love with him right now wasn’t cuddly or sweet – it was deep and hot.
Daphne could smell the tang of blood in the air, the musky scent of her body as she was beyond wet. Each time he surged into her, she heard the sloppy sounds of their union and it made her practically gleeful knowing that they could share this pleasure.
“Get on the bed, Daph,” Conn growled and she immediately complied. As she lay on her back, she felt a sweet piercing on the inside of her thigh and his moan of delight as he made contact with her femoral artery. She heard his ragged curse as he dragged himself away and sank his member inside of her once again.
“You are sweet in so many ways, my love,” he whispered as he began to move, watching her with his dark eyes. Daphne wrapped her legs around his hips and met him thrust for thrust. There was nothing like having Conn take her, knowing that this powerful man was hers alone. She felt her body begin to tighten and tingle, knowing that her pinnacle wasn’t far off.
“Don’t ever scare me or leave me again. I couldn’t take it if I ever lost you,” he said openly, lacing his fingers with hers as he kissed each fingertip. He then pinned her hand to the pillow beside her head as his movement increased in intensity.
“I love it when you take me, make me yours, Conn,” she whispered and saw him shiver in reaction to her words. His expressive face was taut as he rode her, his body trembling with desire.
“I love you,” he breathed, shakily.
“Forever?” she asked gently, knowing that she would love him until the end of time. His smile, the way he watched her or protected her…she would always be his woman.
“Always,” Conn growled in the very moment that her body exploded around his. She heard him repeat it over and over again as he lost control, filling her body with his essence and her heart with his love.
Epilogue
Daphne smiled as she looked out the sliding glass door of their small two-bedroom house to see Conn standing at the grill. He was absolutely naked except for her apron and the pink frills had never looked… so damned hot. She could not help ogling his taut cheeks as he stood there in the sunlight.
“I’m glad we have some privacy here,” she announced with a smile, bringing him a beer. Conn gratefully accepted it and held it up to his forehead for a second in a mock salute.
“Same here.”
“I love this peace we have out here,” she said easily. She never thought that she would ever miss downtown Chicago, but Greyslake was close enough to the college that she could commute. She wouldn’t have to give up her job for them to be together because she loved teaching.
They were determined to have a normal existence together as a couple. Their wedding was in three weeks and Daphne was beyond excited. Conn’s family would be together for approximately two hours and that was the longest gathering in a thousand years. She had adamantly put her foot down to his family, insisting they all attend, and compromised on forgoing a massive reception.
She wanted to give Conn an ordinary world, a normal life… and Conn was determined to provide it for them both. A small silky terrier ran up to them, jumping onto Conn’s barely covered lap and whisking herself up onto his shoulders.
“How’s my little girlfriend?” he crooned softly, and Daphne knew he was ignoring the tiny nails jabbing his skin. He loved that dog and it made their life together downright homey.
“I swear you love that dog more than me,” she muttered with a smile.
“How’s my precious, Jezebel?” Conn taunted, and the bundle of fur began to yip wildly in excitement. “That’s right! Who’s my girl? Who’s my little hussy?”
“Can you not call her that? She’s not your hussy,” Daphne chuckled, “It’s bad enough when I take her to the vet and explain her name is Jezebel.”
“The female would do anything for a little lovin’,” Conn said warmly, taking a deep sip of his drink. Daphne grinned knowingly as her apron began to rise on his lap suggestively.
“Having problems?”
“Opportunities, darling.”
“Let’s take your opportunities inside and see what we make of them,” Daphne said breathlessly as she got to her feet and turned off the grill. “That can wait for a bit.”
“I’m going to adore taking care of my demanding wife,” Conn teased, scooping her up and carrying her inside. Jezebel was not to be ignored, she darted in between his legs nearly tripping them and making both of them laugh.
“I’m going to love being married to you,” Daphne admitted honestly, seeing the tenderness in his gaze as he set her down gently on their bed.
“Not as much as I will love it,” he admitted. “You’ve given me everything back that was missing in my life and I…” A high-pitched ding alerted both of them that a text message had come in. They usually only received simultaneous texts when it was a group text from his family. Conn picked up the phone and frowned.
“What is it?”
“The text message says that Loegaire is pregnant? First off, I didn’t think that was possible for a vampire to have a child and secondly? Who is the father? How can my little freckle-faced, red-haired sister be pregnant?”
“Conn, I’ve seen your sister on FaceTime and I promise you- she’s old enough and beautiful enough to have any man she could ever want,” Daphne consoled, laughing at the prudish side of her soon-to-be-groom.
“But… but…?” he stammered. “I don’t understand?”
“Well… here’s the thing,” Daphne whispered seductively, pulling her tank top off over her head. “If Loegaire can get pregnant then maybe we should try? After all, what would be more idyllic than a house full of children with your eyes?”
“Only if they had your smile,” Conn said tenderly, crawling onto the bed where she lay. She loved the feel of his warm skin against her and would never tire of the way his emotions showed in his eyes.
“Do you want to take off that apron? It will only get in the way.”
“Oh no,” he teased wickedly, sliding home into her body. “I figure my best prep work for baking is done wearing it and we are going to put a sweet little bun in your precious oven. Pink cherry fabric makes me look sexy, don’t you think?”
“Absolutely,” Daphne said, raising her hips up to meet him.
